案例式推理 (Case-Based Reasoning, CBR) 是知識表達的一種新方法，最主要就是利用先前的經驗來解決問題。在 CBR 中，知識是以過去的案例來表示。而需要解決類似問題時，便使用這些經驗來引導推理。
簡單地說, Case-Based Reasoning 就是：
- 人類推理的過程
- 推理過程的表達
- 在應用程式發展上，解決問題的一種方法論
如果您總是搞不清楚前向推理(forward chaining)，後向推理(backward chaining)， goal-directed reasoning， certainty factors 這些名詞。而您的領域知識又很難用 if-then 的規則方式表達，但卻有大量的案例足以取樣，則用 CBR的方式來解決問題，應是不錯的選擇。
